Johns Island and James Island are two of the Sea Islands near Charleston, South Carolina. The Ashley and Stono Rivers separate these islands from peninsular downtown Charleston.

Fort Sumter is located on an island just off the eastern tip of James Island and was the site of the first battle of the Civil War. Bombardment of Fort Sumter was started from Fort Johnson, which was located on the eastern portion of James Island.
Johns Island is home to “The Angel Oak”, a 1400-year-old Southern live oak tree.
